Free Control4 Health Check

Find Out What’s Wrong Before It Costs You

Send us a few photos of your Control4 kit and tell us what’s misbehaving. One of our engineers will look it over, usually remotely, and come back within three working days with a plain-English verdict: what you have, what’s wrong, what fixing it involves and a rough idea of cost. It’s a first look rather than a formal quotation, it’s free, and there’s no obligation to take it further.

The Honest Bit

Why Would We Do This for Free?

Because it works for both of us. Some health checks turn into paid work: a repair, an upgrade, an aftercare plan. Plenty don’t, and that’s fine. Either way you end up knowing exactly what your system is, what state it’s in and what your options are, and we end up being the company you think of when you do want help. No pressure, no hard sell, and if the honest answer is “it’s fine, leave it alone”, that’s what we’ll tell you.

Looked At by the People Who’d Fix It

Your photos and description go to the same six-person, in-house team that designs, installs and supports Control4 systems every working day. Many of the systems we look at were installed by companies that have since moved on or shut down; rescuing them is a normal week for us, not a special case.

What We Look At

A Proper Once-Over, Not a Glance

From your photos and description, and then a proper look inside the system itself, we build a picture of what you actually have and where it stands. For that under-the-hood part, Control4 only opens the doors to the dealer registered to your system — so we’ll talk you through making us your dealer of record. It’s free, takes a few minutes, and commits you to nothing.

  • Which controller and OS version you’re running, including whether the OS 2 shutdown affects you
  • The age and generation of your kit, which photos reveal surprisingly well
  • Software and configuration drift: out-of-date firmware, broken drivers, half-removed kit
  • Hardware that’s failing or already past end of support
  • Quick wins: things you can safely do yourself, which we’ll tell you about rather than charge for

One honest limit: the network underneath it all (router, switches, WiFi) can’t properly be judged remotely. That’s what the full onsite audit covers.

How It Works

Checked in Four Steps

01

Send the Form

Tell us what’s misbehaving and attach a photo or two of your equipment rack. Two minutes, and don’t worry about technical terms.

02

An Engineer Reviews It

A Control4-certified engineer reviews your photos. For the full under-the-hood look we’ll talk you through making us your Control4 dealer of record — free, and it commits you to nothing.

03

You Get the Verdict

A plain-English rundown within three working days: what you have, what’s wrong, what fixing it involves and rough costs, in writing.

04

You Decide

Fix it with us, upgrade it, put it on an aftercare plan, or do nothing at all. If you want to go ahead, a full onsite audit (£250, credited against any work) turns the rough figures into a formal quote.

Running OS 2? The Clock Is Ticking

OS 2 Cloud Services End on 1 November 2026

If your Control4 system still runs OS 2, its app, remote access and voice control stop working on 1 November 2026. Whether you can simply update or need a new controller depends entirely on which controller you have, and the health check tells you exactly that. Our OS 2 upgrade guide explains the dates and options in full.

Common Questions

The Health Check, Answered Plainly

Is it really free?

Yes. The remote review of your photos, your description and (as dealer of record) the system itself costs nothing, and so does the written verdict. The paid steps beyond it, like the £250 onsite audit, only ever happen with your explicit go-ahead.

What do you need from me?

The form takes two minutes: what the system does, what’s stopped working, and at least one photo of your equipment rack or cupboard, with room for up to eight. Photos of the boxes with the lights on tell an engineer a surprising amount, which is why we ask for them. If you don’t know what any of it is called, that’s completely fine.

You didn’t install my system. Is that a problem?

Not at all, and most health checks are exactly this. Many Control4 owners are stranded after their original installer moved on or closed down. We take over systems like these regularly: we assess first and tell you where things stand. For the full check you make us your dealer of record (see the next question), which doesn’t commit you to any work.

How do you get under the hood remotely?

Control4 systems can only be opened up properly by the dealer registered to them. So for the full check, you make us your dealer of record through Control4: it’s free, takes a few minutes, and we talk you through it step by step. It doesn’t commit you to any work and can be changed again at any time. If your original installer has disappeared, it also puts your system back in the hands of a team that can actually support it. The photo review happens either way.

What happens after the check?

You get the verdict in writing and it’s your call. Some people book a repair or an OS 3 upgrade, some put the system on an aftercare plan so it stays healthy, and some file the report away for later. All three are normal outcomes. If you do want to go ahead, the next step is a full onsite audit and a formal itemised quotation before any work begins.

Is the health check a quotation?

No, and it doesn’t pretend to be. The health check gives you a high-level picture: what you have, what’s wrong, and rough pricing for the likely fixes, so you can decide whether it’s worth pursuing. If it is, the next step is a full onsite audit and a formal itemised quotation before any work begins.

What does the full onsite audit cost?

£250, and we’re upfront about why. An engineer spends proper time at your property going through the system, the rack and the network, and you get a formal, itemised quotation at the end of it. The fee is non-refundable, but every penny is credited against any work you go ahead with, so if we do the job it has effectively cost you nothing. It also means our formal quotes go to people who are serious, which is how we keep the remote check free for everyone.

Will you try to sell me things?

We’ll tell you what we found and what we’d honestly recommend, including “leave it alone, it’s fine” when that’s the truth. If work is worth doing we’ll say so and quote for it, once, in writing. Nobody phones you every week; we’re a six-person installation team, not a call centre.

At least one photo of your kit is required, and you can attach up to eight — the equipment rack or cupboard is the ideal starting point. Photos are how our engineers see what you’re working with, so the more we can see, the better the verdict. We’ll come back within three working days.

Please include photos — we genuinely need them. They are how our engineers see what you are actually working with before going under the hood: the equipment rack or cupboard with the lights on, the controller, a keypad, anything misbehaving. Up to four here, and four more below if you have them.

Got more? Four extra slots, entirely optional.

We’ll come back to you within three working days. No obligation. This form is protected by reCAPTCHA. We only use your details to deal with your enquiry and never share them — see our privacy statement.
