Aftercare & Support Plans

Systems Age Well When Someone Looks After Them

Choose the level of support that suits your home, from straightforward advice to planned maintenance and proactive monitoring. We’ll confirm the right plan and price for your system before you join.

The Honest Bit

We’re Six People, Not a Call Centre

We don’t run a 24/7 phone line, because with a six-person team that would mean handing your call to someone who has never seen your system.

Instead, you get the same in-house team that designs, installs and programs our systems: a support line answered by people who know your actual system and, on our top plan, urgent remote support seven days a week and monitoring that alerts us when compatible equipment needs attention. Honest support, properly staffed.

Good to know before you choose

  • These are starting prices, including VAT. Larger or more complex systems are quoted with a longer annual maintenance allowance where needed, and we confirm the right plan and price for your system in writing before you join.
  • Plans run for a year from your start date and renew on the anniversary unless you give three months’ written notice before the renewal date.
  • Pay monthly by Direct Debit or yearly by bank transfer. The total is the same either way (from £468, £1,188 or £2,148 a year), and paying monthly isn’t a monthly contract.
  • Work outside your plan is charged at our member rate of £112.50 an hour including VAT, agreed with you before it starts.
  • Travel for the visits included in your plan is built into your quoted subscription. Additional visits carry an attendance charge based on your location, plus on-site labour at our member rate. We confirm the expected cost with you before booking.
  • If we didn’t install your system, any takeover or remedial work it needs, and any monitoring hardware On Watch needs, is quoted separately before your plan starts. Read the full plan terms.

Reply times are when we aim to first get back to you, not a guaranteed repair time or engineer visit, and are counted within the support hours that apply. Urgent help is remote and is for when something important stops working; new scenes, extra equipment and programming changes are everyday requests. Included engineer visits take place during normal working hours. All times are UK time.

What Customers Say
"We first started dealing with SMC Custom Install in 2015 where they installed a full Control 4 system comprising of CCTV a Cinema room and full Smart Home system throughout the house. SMC have continued to maintain the system since that time and advised and carried out upgrades where necessary over the last 10 years. I have always found Philip and the team most helpful and very quick to respond to any issues that we have had."

    Common Questions

    Aftercare, Answered Plainly

What’s the difference between everyday support and urgent help?

Everyday support comes with every plan, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm. Use it for anything, from questions and faults to new scenes and adding equipment.

    • On Hand: advice by phone and email, with hands-on remote troubleshooting charged at our member rate.
    • On Call and On Watch: phone, email, WhatsApp and engineer video calls, with up to 30 minutes of engineer time per issue for remote investigation and straightforward fixes. One fault counts as one issue however many messages it takes, and we ask before any extra time is charged.

Urgent help is for when something important stops working outside office hours. An engineer connects to your system remotely.

    • On Call: weekday evenings until 9pm and Saturday 9am to 12 noon, with a reply within four hours.
    • On Watch: weekday evenings and weekends until 9pm, with a reply within two hours.

When you join, we set you up with the best ways to reach us for both. Urgent help doesn’t include evening or weekend engineer visits. Reply times are for our first response, not a guaranteed repair, and all times are UK time.

What do annual maintenance and monitoring involve?

On Hand includes a yearly remote review of your system’s status, software and any maintenance we’d recommend.

On Call and On Watch include an annual maintenance visit instead, with up to two hours on site from one engineer. Larger or more complex systems are quoted with a longer service allowance where needed. Within that time we:

    • Check the condition, ventilation and status of supported equipment.
    • Test agreed key functions and integrations.
    • Review the network and check configuration backups where supported.
    • Apply suitable approved routine updates.
    • Send you a brief summary of findings and recommendations.

Travel, preparation and the summary are part of your plan, and travel time doesn’t count towards your time on site. The visit isn’t an exhaustive test of every device, a full WiFi survey or a security audit, and it isn’t a bank of hours for installations, major repairs or new programming. Anything unexpected outside its scope is discussed and priced before we go ahead.

On Watch adds automated monitoring of compatible equipment, with alerts reviewed during support hours. Nobody watches your system around the clock, not every fault can be detected remotely, and it isn’t an alarm receiving service or a CCTV watching service. We apply approved updates at suitable times rather than installing every update as soon as it’s released.

What costs extra, and what if equipment fails?

    • Work outside your plan: charged at our member rate of £112.50 an hour including VAT, and we confirm the cost before starting.
    • Visits: travel for the visits included in your plan is built into your quoted subscription. Any other visit carries an attendance charge based on your location, which covers travel only, plus on-site labour at our member rate; we confirm both before you book.
    • Overruns: if an included visit runs over its allowance, only the extra labour you agree to is charged.
    • Equipment failures: diagnosing a suspected hardware fault can fall within your included support, but replacement equipment, parts, repairs and further labour are quoted separately.
    • Also quoted separately: major upgrades, new installations, substantial programming changes, damage, equipment outside your agreed system, and third-party subscriptions such as broadband or streaming services.

A plan is a support agreement, not insurance or an extended warranty, and it doesn’t affect your statutory rights.

Can I join if another company installed my system?

Yes. We assess the system first, usually remotely, and quote separately for any takeover work, remedial work, access setup or documentation it needs before your plan starts. For a Control4 system, our free Control4 health check is an easy first step: send photos and we’ll give you a plain-English verdict within three working days.

How do payment, renewal and cancellation work?

    • Paying: monthly by Direct Debit or yearly by bank transfer; the yearly total is the same either way. Paying monthly spreads the cost; it doesn’t make the plan a monthly contract.
    • Renewal: plans run for a year from your start date and renew automatically on the anniversary.
    • Cancelling: to stop a plan renewing, tell us in writing at least three months before the renewal date.

Your quotation confirms your start date, payment method and renewal date, and your statutory rights are unaffected. If you already have a plan with us, your existing agreement continues to apply.

Can I still pay as I go?

Yes. We still help customers without a plan, subject to availability, at our standard rate of £125 an hour including VAT. Pay-as-you-go work doesn’t come with plan response targets, urgent support hours, priority booking or the member rate.
