How Much Does a Control4 Smart Home Cost? UK Price Guide

Based on our worked examples and current project pricing, a Control4 smart home system costs from £9,100 including VAT for a single room; a typical three-bedroom house comes out around £29,000 and a four-bedroom around £32,000, rising to £47,780 for a 5-6 bedroom house and £85,940 to £90,000 for a 6-8 bedroom house. These figures cover the Control4-specific equipment for audio, control, networking and lighting, plus an allowance for the sundry parts that go with it (cables, connectors, brackets and back boxes); installation, programming and configuration are costed separately as part of a full quotation. Every home is different, so treat these as planning budgets rather than fixed prices.

This guide was first published in August 2022 and the worked examples below were re-priced in August 2026 from current trade price lists. Here are those worked examples in one place. Every figure is inclusive of VAT, covers the Control4-specific equipment plus an allowance for sundry parts, and was priced in August 2026, then sense-checked against our live project pricing in September 2026 (a four-bedroom house now typically lands nearer the £32,000 end, and the largest houses nearer £90,000), so treat them as planning budgets rather than a quotation.

Installation, configuration, cabling, the equipment rack, TVs, blinds, heating integration and CCTV are all quoted separately. The sections below set out exactly what sits behind each of those figures.

What this guide covers (and what it doesn’t)

A smart home is a connected home, and we use Control4 as our smart home platform of choice to bring everything in your home together. When people ask what a Control4 system costs, the honest answer is that it varies hugely with each customer’s requirements. What we can do is separate the costs into two groups.

There are costs we would consider Control4-specific: the controllers, amplifiers, speakers, remotes, networking hardware and lighting modules that make up the system itself. That is what this article covers. Then there are costs that apply to most smart home projects regardless of the control platform you choose, which we cost up as part of a complete package of works:

• System design fees
• First fix cabling installation
• Connection plates
• TVs and cinema systems
• Heating integration
• Motorised blinds and curtains
• The equipment rack and associated components
• CCTV and security
• Second fix installation and configuration fees
• Service and aftercare

These should be considered additional to the Control4 system costs shown below.

Why we recommend pre-wiring, whatever your budget today

When planning a smart home, it pays to consider all eventualities even if you can’t afford to fit every piece of equipment initially. That’s why we are strong advocates of pre-wiring homes for the future: if you have a wire, you have an option. No wires means no options, or at the very least a big bill to retrofit them later. Control4 system pricing by home size

The examples below show what we would consider the Control4-specific costs to equip various sizes of home. Where lighting costs are outlined, we’ve assumed a hybrid lighting system: key rooms get smart lighting, while low-priority rooms keep traditional switching. All prices quoted are inclusive of VAT and include an allowance for sundry parts, but exclude installation, configuration and the non-Control4 costs listed above. These prices were correct as of August 2026.

Single room

This solution provides one room of discrete high-resolution audio using in-ceiling speakers and an on-wall subwoofer, control of your devices (TV, Sky box, Blu-ray player) from a single Control4 interface, plus rock-solid WiFi with an industry-leading router and network switch. A typical single-room system for a lounge or kitchen includes:

• 1 x Control4 Core 1 room automation controller
• 1 x Triad SA1 streaming zone amplifier
• 4 x Triad IC82 ceiling speakers
• 1 x Control4 Halo remote control
• 1 x Triad on-wall subwoofer with 300W amplifier

Audio-visual system cost: £8,440.00 inclusive of VAT.

Adding Control4 lighting control for four dimmable lighting loads (2 x Control4 dual load dimmers, 2 x Control4 upgraded face plates) costs £660.00 inclusive of VAT, bringing the total single-room system to £9,100.00 inclusive of VAT.

3-4 bedroom house

This solution provides discrete high-resolution audio streaming to four rooms (one with an on-wall subwoofer), control of your devices from Halo handheld remotes, rock-solid WiFi throughout the house, and networking with power management and surge protection. A typical system includes:

• 1 x Control4 Core 3 automation controller
• 12 x Triad IC82 ceiling speakers
• 4 x Triad SA1 streaming zone amplifiers
• 1 x Triad on-wall subwoofer with 300W amplifier
• 3 x Control4 Halo remote controls

Audio-visual, network and WiFi system cost: £20,720.00 inclusive of VAT.

A typical Control4 lighting system for this size of house allows for 16 dimmable loads, 4 non-dimmable internal circuits and 4 non-dimmable external circuits, using a 5-slot Control4 panel, dimmer and relay modules, bus gateway and power supply, plus 10 wired configurable keypads with upgraded face plates. This costs £8,410.00 inclusive of VAT.

Total system cost: £29,130.00 inclusive of VAT.

5-6 bedroom house

This solution provides discrete high-resolution audio streaming to eight rooms (two with on-wall subwoofers), control from Halo remotes or an in-wall touchscreen, whole-house WiFi, networking with surge protection, and a gate intercom — a popular addition at this size of home. A typical system includes:

A typical Control4 lighting system at this size covers 32 dimmable loads plus 4 non-dimmable internal and 4 external loads, built around a pre-wired lighting enclosure for 5 modules with RCBO breakers and isolator, dimmer and relay modules, and 20 wired configurable keypads with upgraded face plates. It costs £14,235.00 inclusive of VAT.

Total system cost: £47,780.00 inclusive of VAT.

6-8 bedroom house

This solution uses Control4’s largest and most powerful automation controller, capable of sixteen zones of high-resolution audio streaming and eight rooms of video distribution, with Halo remotes for eight rooms, a pair of in-wall touchscreens, whole-house WiFi, managed power with surge protection and a gate intercom. A typical system includes:

A typical Control4 lighting system for a house of this size handles 56 dimmable loads plus 4 non-dimmable internal and 4 external loads, using a pre-wired lighting enclosure for 9 modules with RCBO breakers and isolator, 7 dimmer modules, 2 relay modules and 30 wired configurable keypads with upgraded face plates. It costs £23,895.00 inclusive of VAT.

Total system cost: £85,940.00 inclusive of VAT.

Can the cost come down?

Yes, in some circumstances. You might be able to take between 5 and 20% off some elements quoted if your home is a large-scale renovation or new build. The scope of the lighting system is also flexible: a hybrid approach, with smart lighting in key rooms only, keeps costs well below a whole-house scheme.
