Smart Home & Cinema Installation Across Shropshire and Beyond
SMC Custom Installs is based in Shrewsbury, where our Control4 Certified Showroom is the starting point for most projects — but our engineers travel throughout Shropshire, Cheshire, Staffordshire, Wales and the West Midlands to design and install smart home, home cinema, lighting, networking and CCTV systems.
Do You Have a Project We Can Help With?
Get in TouchWhere We Actually Work
Most of our projects sit within about ninety minutes of Shrewsbury. That radius covers the whole of Shropshire, much of Cheshire and Staffordshire, the Welsh borders and the West Midlands — close enough for us to survey properly, install without cutting corners, and come back quickly if you ever need us. For larger projects further afield we're always happy to talk; whole-house systems and dedicated cinema rooms are worth travelling for, and we'll tell you honestly whether the distance makes sense for the job.
Smart Home Installation in Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury is home — our showroom is here, our engineers live locally, and a large share of our work is within sight of the town. It's also a town that keeps installers honest: the centre is full of listed Tudor and Georgian buildings where cabling has to be routed sympathetically and lighting control often needs to retrofit without rewiring, which is exactly what Lutron's wireless systems are designed for. Out in the surrounding villages the work shifts towards modern family homes, extensions and dedicated cinema rooms.
Being on the doorstep matters in practical ways too. You can call into the showroom to see Control4, Lutron and a working cinema before deciding anything, and if a project needs a second visit or a tweak after handover, we're minutes away rather than a diary entry three weeks out.
Smart Home Installation in Telford
Telford is barely twenty minutes from our showroom along the M54, and its housing stock is quite different from the rest of Shropshire — much of it built from the 1960s onwards, with new estates still going up now. That newer stock suits smart home work well: plasterboard walls and accessible voids make cabling straightforward, and if you're buying off-plan or renovating, it's the ideal moment to get structured cabling and proper Wi-Fi into the fabric of the house rather than bolted on afterwards.
A lot of Telford households commute or work from home, so the jobs we're asked about most are reliable whole-house networking, multi-room audio and video, and Control4 systems that tie lighting, heating and security together on one app. The short trip to our Shrewsbury showroom is worth making before you commit to anything.
Smart Home & CCTV Installation in Oswestry
Oswestry sits half an hour up the A5 from us, a market town right on the Welsh border with a property mix that runs from townhouses to smallholdings and farms in the surrounding hills. Rural properties around Oswestry often come with long driveways, outbuildings and no near neighbours — which is why CCTV and security systems that you can check from your phone are one of the things we're asked for most in this part of the county.
The same geography makes good networking harder than it should be: broadband that arrives at the house still has to reach the garden office, the barn and the far end of a thick-walled farmhouse. We design smart home and network systems around the property you actually have, not the one the equipment brochure assumes, and we survey in person before quoting.
Smart Home Installation Across Shropshire
Beyond the towns, Shropshire is one of England's most rural counties — and that shapes the work. Barn conversions, farmhouses and village properties across the county share the same honest problems: stone walls that swallow Wi-Fi, broadband that struggles once it's inside the house, and rooms added over centuries that were never wired with any of this in mind. Solving that starts with structured cabling and whole-property Wi-Fi done properly, because everything else — streaming, smart heating, security, multi-room music — depends on it.
We cover the whole county, and no part of it is a long journey from Shrewsbury. Period and listed properties are familiar territory: wireless Lutron lighting control retrofits without chasing walls, and cabling can almost always be routed so you'd never know it was there.
Smart Home & Cinema Installation in Cheshire
Cheshire starts around half an hour north of our showroom, and we work right across the county — from the rural south up to Alderley Edge, Wilmslow and the surrounding villages. The county's housing is a genuine mix — black-and-white period farmhouses and village properties alongside substantial new-builds — and the two call for quite different approaches. New-builds give us the chance to wire a dedicated cinema room or whole-house system from first fix; period homes are usually retrofit projects where Lutron's wireless lighting control earns its keep.
Cheshire clients tend to start with a visit to the Shrewsbury showroom — it's an easy run down the A49 or A41, and pressing the keypads and sitting in a working cinema beats any brochure. From there we survey at your property before designing anything.
Smart Home Installation in Stafford & Staffordshire
Stafford and the west of the county are well within our working radius — the A5 and M54 put most of Staffordshire under an hour from Shrewsbury, so a project here gets the same site visits and aftercare as one in our own county. The area has a healthy mix of established family homes, farmhouses and new developments, and the enquiries we get reflect that: Control4 smart home systems that bring lighting, heating, audio and security onto one system, and cinema and media rooms built into spare rooms, garages and lofts.
Because Staffordshire has plenty of installers nearer to Birmingham and Stoke, the reason people call us tends to be the showroom: being able to drive over, sit in a working cinema and operate a live Control4 and Lutron system before spending anything is rarer than it should be.
Smart Home Installation in North & Mid Wales
Shrewsbury has always looked west as much as east, and so do we. We regularly work along the main road corridors from the border deep into Mid Wales, and north into the counties along the English border. Properties here are often genuinely remote — farmhouses, converted chapels and homes at the end of a mile of track — and that makes two things matter more than anywhere else we work: a network designed for the building, so whatever broadband you can get actually reaches every room, and CCTV you can check remotely when the nearest neighbour is a field away.
Stone walls, slate and distance defeat off-the-shelf kit; they don't defeat a properly surveyed installation. We visit in person before we quote, and we'll be straight with you about what's achievable at your property.
Home Cinema & Smart Home Installation in the West Midlands
The M54 runs almost door to door from Shrewsbury into the West Midlands, which puts the western side of the conurbation and much of greater Birmingham within an hour of our showroom. Work here is mostly urban and suburban: dedicated cinema rooms in cellars, garages and loft conversions, multi-room audio, and Lutron lighting control in renovations where the electrics are being reworked anyway.
There's no shortage of installers in a city, so we don't pretend to be the local option — what we offer is a Control4 Certified Showroom you can actually visit, an in-house team rather than subcontractors, and the same engineers from survey through to programming and support. For a serious cinema or whole-house project, plenty of West Midlands clients decide the drive up the M54 is the easy part.
Your Area Not Listed?
It's still worth asking. We take on larger projects — whole-house systems, dedicated cinema rooms, new builds at first-fix stage — well beyond our usual patch, and we'll tell you straight away if the distance doesn't make sense for the job. Call us on 01743 234945 and we'll give you an honest answer in one conversation.
