SMC Custom Installs is a smart home and cinema installation company based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Established in 2006, our six-strong in-house team of designers, installers and programmers has completed hundreds of projects. We're a Control4 Certified Showroom, an Arcam Centre of Cinematic Excellence and a Monitor Audio Platinum II dealer.

Established in Shrewsbury Since 2006
We are a Control4 Certified Showroom, an Arcam Centre of Cinematic Excellence, and a Monitor Audio Platinum II dealer based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, driven by a passion for what we do. Since our inception in 2006, we've successfully completed hundreds of cinema and smart home technology projects, gaining valuable expertise along the way.
We share our building with our sister company SMC Hi-Fi, a specialist two-channel hi-fi showroom with demonstrations by appointment and an in-house repair workshop: same owners, same address, same phone number. It’s where our obsession with how things sound comes from.
Our experienced team of designers, installers and programming specialists work closely together to make sure every project comes together properly, all under the guidance of a dedicated project manager. With a focus on passion, creativity and innovation, we aim to deliver results that keep both you and us ahead of the curve.
As a long-standing CEDIA member, we are committed to staying at the forefront of this ever-evolving industry. While our focus is on the custom installation market, we also welcome walk-in retail customers to explore and purchase from a curated range of products available in-store.

Six People. A Real Office. Someone Always Answers.
A lot of smart home installation around here is one person and a van. SMC is a six-strong, full-time team: two directors who are in the business every day, a full-time in-house programmer, dedicated in-house support, and two on-site installation engineers, all working from a proper office with proper phone lines, behind our Control4 Certified Showroom in Shrewsbury. It means the person who designed your system is still here to look after it years later, there’s cover when someone’s on holiday, and the phone gets answered while the engineers are up ladders. It’s also why builders, electricians and interior designers build us into their projects.

Duncan Lewis
DirectorAs a co-director of the business, Duncan brings over 25 years of industry experience and a university degree in design. Renowned for his meticulous attention to detail, he excels in crafting technically precise cinema rooms from concept to completion. Duncan plays a pivotal role in consultations and system design, and his expertise truly stands out during onsite audio and video calibrations, where his sharp eye and finely tuned ear bring out the best in every system.
Philip Brown
DirectorPhilip has been a key member of the company for 15 years and now serves as a co-director. With a background in computer science and a formal qualification in project management, Philip often acts as the first point of contact for new clients. He oversees consultations, system design and project management for many of our projects. As a qualified Control4 programmer, Philip thrives on the creative challenges each unique project presents.
Ian Curtis
Installation EngineerAs one of our longest-standing team members, Ian is the driving force behind bringing Duncan and Philip's designs to life. With over 30 years of industry experience, there's no challenge he can't tackle. Known for his attention to detail and unwavering dedication, Ian often goes the extra mile, staying onsite late to make sure every project is completed to the highest standard and on time.
Ben Curtis
Control4 ProgrammerBen has been an integral part of our team since 2016, bringing a versatile skill set to the table. He focuses primarily on programming our Control4 smart home and cinema systems while also assisting with installation work. Though Ben had no formal industry background before joining us, he has developed his expertise through a combination of extensive on-the-job experience and formal industry training.
Brent Riley-Beckett
Installation EngineerBrent joined our team in 2023, bringing over 15 years of experience as a fully qualified electrician. His installation skills and meticulous attention to detail have been invaluable in our field, where precision is paramount. Although new to the industry when he joined, Brent has embraced his role wholeheartedly, spending his first year earning industry accreditations and undergoing extensive formal and on-the-job training.
Mike Griffiths
Technical & OperationsMike joined us in 2025 and is the newest member of the team. He has over 15 years of experience in the IT and technology sector, bringing new skills and processes with him. Having passed a leading qualification in the industry, he is now a certified Control4 Technician and continues to expand his knowledge base within the company.

We are proud of our newly refurbished smart home and cinema demonstration showroom, complete with private on-site parking. Designed to guide clients through every aspect of their project, it reflects the standards our accreditations demand, with a demo cinema, Control4 running live, Lutron lighting and blinds working, and multi-room audio throughout.
