Sub-woofers
Sub-woofers create low end frequencies or bass. They need to be specified to match your main directional speakers, for example if you have tiny wall mounted satellite speakers, a small low powered sub-woofer simply won't do. On the flip side, you can never have too much power. High quality sub-woofers are not about boom boom boom, there about recreating accurate, controlled low level bass response, the more power, the more head room, the more head room, the better the sound.
This is the only speaker in your system that connects to a plug socket, as active sub-woofers have their own amplifier located inside. As previously mentioned these amplifiers are often high powered. One of our favorite products is the Sun-fire HRS8. Although very small, the amplifier in this sub-woofer is rated at 1000 watts, this means this product has lots of head room, therefore lots of quality. Sub-woofers can be the key to making a good system great, so although this item can be positioned almost anywhere in your room, even behind the sofa, it is important to remember there importance. Without one, your Movie experience just won't be the same.
